Chinese companies are buying up U.S. companies that store mammoth personal data on American children and adults. National-security analysts are starting to take notice.
The problem is not whether the proposed Internet privacy rules were good for consumers, but that they would be easily circumvented with the shell game of corporate subsidiaries.
The hard limits to secret matters of state are no excuse for popular ignorance about cybersecurity. Our adversaries can only be expected to take advantage.
