The Women’s National Basketball Association’s (WNBA) continued existence as an embarrassing excuse for a sports league is dependent on its largest backer, the men’s National Basketball Association (NBA). So, at what point does the latter use its financial influence to stop the former’s anti-white violence problem?
The few interested viewers who bothered tuning in to Saturday’s Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever WNBA matchup were treated to a knockoff gladiator battle, in which Chicago guard DiJonai Carrington committed an egregious foul against Indiana guard Sophie Cunningham. Video of the incident shows Carrington — who was ejected and fined for the hit — wrapping her arm around Cunningham’s neck and dragging her toward the ground as the Fever guard went for a layup.
Carrington, who is black, dutifully took to social media to classify the incident as an example of “white privilege.” Because, as everyone knows, wrapping one’s arm around another person’s face and sacking them to the floorboards is something only white people can get away with.
One might expect that type of foul to be a rarity, but the barbaric hit on Cunningham is not an anomaly. Rather, it’s part of a longstanding pattern of violence against her and fellow (white) teammate Caitlin Clark.
It’s not difficult to assess why this phenomenon has come to fruition. Both Cunningham — who has taken a stand against trans-identifying dudes in women’s sports — and Clark are popular players who are bringing fresh eyes to a league most people don’t care about. It just so happens that both of them happen to be white, heterosexual, and likeable, which a sizeable portion of the predominantly black (and significantly lesbian) player base clearly finds problematic.
Those hoping that the same WNBA infatuated with allowing men to dominate girls’ sports will tackle this problem head-on shouldn’t hold their breath. Heck, not even Cunningham’s coach would fully back her against Carrington’s appalling hit.
While the WNBA certainly deserves criticism for its inaction, the ultimate enabler of this nonsense is none other than the NBA.
Unlike its male counterpart, the WNBA is incapable of existing on its own. As The Federalist previously observed, “Some estimates place NBA ownership of the women’s league at roughly 60 percent.”
That financial support isn’t a great money-making venture, either. The New York Post reported in October 2024 that the WNBA lost $40 million in its 2024 season, continuing a trend of losing millions each year since the female league’s inception.
Given its share of WNBA ownership, the NBA wields a great deal of influence over its less-successful female counterpart. And yet, there’s little to indicate that the NBA has done anything worthwhile to push the WNBA into ensuring Cunningham’s and Clark’s safety.

There is no reason for the NBA to keep bankrolling the WNBA when it serves as nothing more than a protectorate for angry, race-obsessed lesbians who jealously attack their fellow players who are white for the crime of being successful and likeable. To keep the Benjamins flowing with zero demands for reform is to enable this garbage to its fullest.
