House Democrats ignored the will of the American people on Thursday when they voted against legislation that would prevent men and boys from invading women’s and girls’ sports.
A majority of Americans oppose men invading women’s sports because they know that males have an indisputable biological and physiological advantage. Yet, that didn’t stop Democrats from smearing the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023” and the dozens of Republicans who endorsed it.
Even without Democrats’ help, the GOP-controlled House voted 219 to 203 to prohibit athletic programs and activities that receive taxpayer funds to “permit a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls.” The bill specifies that sex “shall be recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”
The legislation is headed to the Democrat-controlled Senate, which will likely kill it. If the act somehow makes it past the upper chamber, President Joe Biden already pledged not to sign it into law because he believes it is “discriminatory.”
“The Administration strongly opposes House passage of H.R. 734,” the White House said in a statement. “Discrimination has no place in our nation’s schools or on our playing fields,” the White House added.
As the act’s author Rep. Greg Steube warned following the White House’s statement, it is the Biden administration, not Republicans, that is leaving women “shunned to the sidelines.”
“This White House has turned their backs on female athletes,” Steube tweeted. “The Left is not only encouraging transgender individuals to invade women’s sports, but they celebrate as women are knocked off podiums and shunned to the sidelines.”
At least 20 states passed legislation aimed at ensuring female-protected spaces on and off the field stay protected. Unfortunately for the vast majority of Americans who care about sex protections, the Biden administration debuted new, contradictory Title IX rules that render those laws moot.
If the White House gets its way, female athletes will no longer be entitled to federal protection against sex discrimination on the field or in the locker room. Instead, teams of girls as young as kindergarten are forced to accept males on their roster. It’s only in high school and college that the Biden administration concedes males have an advantage that could be disqualifying under a set of extreme criteria.
As the vote on Thursday showed, Democrats in Congress are all too willing to help the Biden administration erase women.
