During a Fox News town hall, 2020 Democratic contender Mike Bloomberg was questioned about his hypocrisy on guns. The audience member asked Bloomberg why he was allowed to have an armed security detail, but regular people wouldn’t be allowed to bear arms under a Bloomberg administration.

“How do you justify pushing for more gun control when you have an armed security detail that is likely equipped with the same firearms and magazines that you seek to ban the common citizen from owning,” asked Clarke Chitty, a voter from Bristow, Virginia.

Chitty continued by asking why Bloomberg’s life was inherently superior to his life or his family’s safety.

“Does your life matter more than mine, or my family, or these peoples?” Chitty asked. The audience cheered.

Bloomberg responded by saying he’s a high-profile individual who gets a lot of threats. This warrants having a security detail. According to Bloomberg, any other type of threat to the average American does not constitute the need to bear arms.

“Look, I probably get 40 or 50 threats every week and some of them are real. That just happens when you’re the mayor in New York City or you’re very wealthy and you’re campaigning for President of the United States, you get lots of threats,” Bloomberg said. “I have a security detail. I pay for it all myself. And they’re all retired police officers who are very well-trained in fire arms.”
