Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., announced a bold new plan to reform the criminal justice system and strike a blow for gender equality: incarcerating male convicts in women’s prisons. Donald Trump’s campaign slogan was “Make America Great Again,” and it appears Elizabeth Warren’s campaign slogan is now “Make Women’s Prisons Co-Ed.”

During a campaign stop in Marshalltown, Iowa, Warren said America needs to stop putting transgender women into prisons with men.

“We have to stop putting trans women who are incarcerated into prisons with men where they are at risk. It it our responsibility,” Warren said.

Warren is advocating that biological men, who want to be or claim to women, should be placed in the same prisons as biological women.

Placing a biological man in a prison with a biological women could have extreme consequences for the safety of jailed women. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, approximately 80,000 inmates get raped each year. Women are raped disproportionately more than men and are also more likely to be raped by another inmate.

It would be unfair for women to be put in prisons with biological males. Not only do women have a higher chance of being raped than their male counterparts, but now they must be jailed with male genitalia as well. This would also increase the likelihood that women contract sexually transmitted diseases.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, prisons and jails hold significantly higher rates of HIV compared to the general population. That number would likely escalate in a situation where men and women were housed together.

Promoting co-ed prison reform is a dangerous idea, but on brand with the Warren campaign which tirelessly panders to the extremely progressive agenda.
