In a Congressional hearing meant to discuss Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s plans for “Libra,” a digital currency, two Democratic Congress members attacked Zuckerberg for Facebook’s alleged racism.

Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, claimed Zuckerberg and Facebook have ruined the lives of many African-Americans, and berated Zuckerberg for not knowing the intricacies of Facebook’s Civil Rights task force.

“This is what’s so frustrating to me, it’s almost like you think this is a joke. When you have ruined the lives of many people, discriminated against them. Do you know what percentage of African Americans are on Facebook, in comparison to majority folks? Do you know what the percentages are?” Beatty asked.

Zuckerberg responded that he did not know because Facebook allegedly does not collect the races of people using the social networking site.

Beatty claimed Zuckerberg probably doesn’t read things that have to do with African Americans.

This hearing was intended to be on Libra, the cryptocurrency Facebook is set to launch in 2020. It was not set to be a trial of Zuckerberg or Facebook’s discrimination policies.

In another face-off, Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, pressed the CEO about the minority representation in Libra’s projects.

“Of the 21 [Libra associations] how many are headed by women?” Green asked.

“Congressman, I do not know the answer off the top of my head, but I can get it for you,” Zuckerberg said.

“Well, I believe you can get it Mr. Zuckerberg, but, one would assume that you would know who heads these corporations that are going to be running this global company. How many of them are minorities, Mr. Zuckerberg?” Green asked. Zuckerberg responded in the same manner as before, saying he does not know the figure off the top of his head.

“Are there any members of the LGBTQ+ community associated with this association, Mr. Zuckerberg?” Green asked.

Green continued to insinuate the Libra venture is comprised of mostly white men who can afford to invest in such a venture.

Somehow, Democrats took a Congressional hearing on Facebook’s new cryptocurrency and turned it into an effort to virtue signal to their constituents. A typical posture for the woke scolds in Congress.

Zuckerberg’s lack of knowledge of statistics on minorities in Facebook is not a damning testament that the company is racist. It simply shows Facebook’s CEO doesn’t know every race and gender of every individual that is employed at his company. Beatty and Green’s attack of Facebook as a racist institution were oddly placed and incredibly off-putting to the legitimacy of Congressional hearings.
