Despite his aggressive climate change stance, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio appeared on Fox News and defended using a fleet of cars to caravan him to and from the gym.

“How can you take an SUV to the gym and back every day and say that you’re really worried about climate change?” Carlson asked.

“It’s a Chrysler Pacifica. It’s a hybrid electric, it’s not an SUV first of all,” de Blasio said.

“But should the climate have to pay the price for that?” Carlson asked.

“Oh come on, it’s a few miles,” de Blasio said.

The day prior to de Blasio’s Fox News interview, CNN hosted a seven-hour town hall focused on climate change. The farthest left candidates, de Blasio among them, spent the time hyping imminent planetary disaster and drastic rearrangements of the global economy and everyday Americans’ lives to supposedly address it.

According to many 2020 candidates, climate change is a crisis on par with World War II. Using the wrong light bulb may be deemed inappropriate among their circles, so de Blasio’s use of a car to go “a few miles” is absolutely unacceptable according to Democrats’ standards for everyone else. The Green New Deal that de Blasio and almost the entire Democratic field supports, for example, would ultimately ban cars altogether.

De Blasio is currently polling at 0.4 percent. While his numbers are unlikely to change due to this interview, it will likely yield a scolding from the some elements of the Democratic base.
