After slowing the federal government down for three days, Democrats lost the standoff without making gains. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is already taking the blame from both sides, but especially fellow Democrats, who are saying he caved for practically nothing in return.
Congressional Black Caucus Chairman @CedricRichmond blamed @SenSchumer for making the whole debate about immigration, acc to one Dem in the meeting, saying, about Senate Dems, “They are getting their butts kicked.” #CNN

Sen. Kamala Harris was one of the 16 Democrats who voted against reopening the government, saying that voting for a bill to codify President Obama’s illegal waiver of immigration law or funding the government was a false choice.
Kamala Harris: “Listen, I’m disappointed with a conversation that suggests a false choice, you either fund the government or you take care of these DACA kids,” Harris says. “We can do both.”

🔥Kamala Harris on McConnell: “I don’t believe he made any commitment whatsoever and I think it would be foolhardy to believe he made a commitment.”

Behind closed doors today, Merkley was NOT happy w deal Dems agreed to, I'm told, saying GOP got way too much and extracted too little; Feinstein also raised concerns about why she voted against bill to keep govt open Friday. Why couldn't they resolve this Friday, she asked?

What is the point of forcing a two-day shutdown if Democrats are just going to cave? Paul Ryan still has refused to commit to a vote for the dreamers. McConnell’s promise to get DACA done is as phony as his promise to Susan Collins.

We now await Democrats’ spin about how this isn’t a cave

Republican lawmakers and commentators from the Right joined in on mocking Schumer.
Dems forced a #SchumerShutdown on Friday night, only to vote to reopen it today for practically nothing? They are playing with real lives and livelihoods here! American government doesn’t operate with an Open & Closed sign hanging in the window.

Feinstein warned that a shutdown would literally kill people…and just voted to keep the shutdown going, for the second time. 🤔
— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) January 22, 2018
I doubted it was possible, but Dems have actually lost a shutdown fight. Schumer has agreed to end the filibuster in exchange for practically nothing. Make no mistake: Schumer & Dems caved. What a political fiasco.
— Brit Hume (@brithume) January 22, 2018
Schumer said Trump wouldn't negotiate so he decided to cave into McConnell and give him the votes. Huh? Nothing about Schumer's strategy in this shutdown makes sense.

And know you haven’t fooled anyone when Rosie O’Donnell is upset.
democrats caved – how fucking depressing
