Paul Ryan: I’m Voting For Donald Trump In November

House Speaker Paul Ryan revealed Thursday that he plans to vote for Donald Trump, writing of the matter in Ryan’s hometown newspaper the Janesville Gazette.

“It’s no secret that he and I have our differences,” Ryan wrote. “I won’t pretend otherwise. And when I feel the need to, I’ll continue to speak my mind. But the reality is, on the issues that make up our agenda, we have more common ground than disagreement.”

Ryan’s announcement is a significant change in tone from his earlier critical comments about the presumptive GOP nominee. In March, he blasted Trump for not disavowing Klu Klux Klan leader David Duke, who had praised the real-estate mogul.

“If a person wants to be a nominee of the Republican Party there can be no evasion and no games. They must reject any group or cause that is built on bigotry,” he said in March. “If someone wants to be our nominee they must understand this.”

Ryan has also slammed Trump for suggesting there would be riots if he was not named the GOP nominee, and publicly denounced Trump’s plan to ban Muslims from entering the country.

Now he says voting for Trump is a pragmatic decision that will enable House Republicans to get their agenda signed into law — whereas Hillary Clinton, if elected, would obstruct it.

“For me, it’s a question of how to move ahead on the ideas that I—and my House colleagues—have invested so much in through the years,” he said. “House Republicans are helping shape that Republican vision by offering a bold policy agenda, by offering a better way ahead. Donald Trump can help us make it a reality.”
