CNN has announced its severed ties with Reza Aslan after he called President Trump a piece of poop on Twitter.

Last week, Donald Trump touted his proposed travel ban via Twitter in the wake of a terror attack in London that killed eight. In response, Aslan called Trump a “piece of sh-t.”

“This piece of sh’t is not just an embarrassment to America and a stain on the presidency. He’s an embarrassment to humankind,” he said in a tweet which he has since deleted. Aslan had repeatedly called Trump, and his son, a “piece of sh-t.”

In an announcement released Friday, CNN stated that it has “decided to not move forward with production” on another season of Aslan’s show “Believer.” The statement also stated that Aslan is not a CNN employee, and that the network has severed ties with his production company.

CNN’s decision came about a week after it split with Kathy Griffin, the comedian who has co-hosted the network’s New Year’s Eve show for the past decade. Photos of Griffin showed her holding up a bloodied head depicting the president. First she defended it as artistic, then she issued an apology. CNN fired her the next day.

Aslan has been a virulent critic of Trump for some time, but this particular tweet crossed a line in the minds of some media critics. Prominent conservatives weighed in and said they wanted Aslan to be fired.

Trump wasn’t the only target of Reza’s ire. In 2012, Aslan wondered aloud via Twitter if Mitt Romney was the “dumbest piece of sh-t in the world” because the former Massachusetts governor ascribed the difference in GDP between Israel and Palestine to their religious and cultural differences.
