Federalist Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway said the corrupt corporate media and other elites such as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are just as guilty of hoaxing the public as Jussie Smollett, who on Thursday was convicted on five of six charges for staging a fake “hate crime.”
“It’s important to remember that when this whole incident happened, the vast majority of sane normal people in the country thought it sounded like a hoax. And yet it is also true that the elites, the celebrities, the media figures, the prominent Democratic officials, including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, as you know, they all acted like this was a legitimate story, no matter how absurd the details were, and they really were absurd,” Hemingway said.
Smollett lied and claimed he was targeted by Donald Trump supporters.
“When you lie, it hurts people,” Hemingway said. “The people he chose to hurt were Republican voters and the people that they elect, and, and none of it would have been possible if the media had done even the slightest bit of skeptical treatment of what was obviously an outlandish story,” Hemingway said.
The media chose to amplify Smollett’s attempts to make himself the center of the story, which Hemingway said takes away from true victims of crime.
“It harms people when you make up stories about Russia collusion like we had all of our media do. And yet our media which claims to oppose misinformation and disinformation are the primary purveyors of misinformation and disinformation. And so are the other elites such as again, Kamala Harris and other people who just uncritically regurgitated this even though I can’t imagine that they were so stupid as to think this was real,” Hemingway said

“We have a crisis of legitimacy caused by our own elites who mishandle every single task that is placed before them, who openly you know, divide the country and have no problem. This weirdly was divisive. I mean, this was a horribly exploitative thing for him to do. It really harmed people and it should not be allowed to continue,” Hemingway said.
