Binyamin Appelbaum is a writer on the New York Times editorial board and author of the new book, “The Economists’ Hour: False Prophets, Free Markets, and the Fracture of Society.” Appelbaum joins Ben Domenech on the Federalist Radio Hour to discuss the rise of economists and their influence on policy, the philosophy of free markets, how we measure economic growth, and economic views of 2020 presidential candidates.

“Where I think things went wrong is in relying on economists to determine the goals of public policy,” Appelbaum said. “Politicians ceded too much of their work to technocrats.”
