Even before its release on July 9, a new book divulging exclusive behind-the-scenes details of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation last year became Amazon’s No. 1 non-fiction bestseller.

Written by Federalist Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway and Judicial Crisis Network Policy Director Carrie Severino, “Justice on Trial: The Kavanaugh Confirmation and the Future of the Supreme Court” is rapidly gaining as the important American event’s first historical account. Through Hemingway and Severino’s remarkable access to inside figures of the confirmation, the book includes the testimonies of more than 100 people including President Donald Trump, key White House figures, Supreme Court justices, and dozens of senators.

“What happened last year with the trial was one of the most important things to happen to the country,” Hemingway said on “Fox and Friends” Monday. “Millions of Americans were horrified as they saw not just what was happening to this man, but what was happening to justice itself.”

“One of the things that was so horrible in what was going on was the advocacy role the media was playing,” Hemingway said. Both Hemingway and Severino were deeply involved in Kavanaugh’s three-month confirmation process, but “we were shocked at what we didn’t know.”

Heritage Action tweeted Monday, “’Justice on Trial’ not only tells the battle it took to confirm SCOTUS Justice Brett Kavanaugh, but exposes the tactics by Left and media to take him down.”

Americans have proven their desire to know what happened as the book gained higher rankings on Amazon. It reached No. 1 Amazon bestseller on July 8, a day before its official release.

“The public clearly has an appetite for the truth,” the Heritage Foundation tweeted.

Mary Ann Glendon of Harvard University reviewed the book, saying, “It is to be hoped that this fine, even-handed book will help to bring an end to the political savagery that has characterized all too many Supreme Court confirmation hearings.”

Justice on Trial reads like a John Grisham novel,” Ilya Shapiro, a legal scholar at the Cato Institute, said. Hemingway and Severino create a riveting account of exclusive inside information revealing what exactly happened and why it matters. The book is “filled with intrigue and well-paced plot development that’s a roller-coaster ride even if we know how it ends,” Shapiro said. “This is destined to become the definitive account of a crucial episode in American life.”

“A… well-sourced, behind-the-scenes chronicle of a Supreme Court nomination process that became a national circus,” Randy Barnett of Georgetown University reviewed. “Everyone concerned with how broken the judicial confirmation process has become needs to read this riveting… account.”
