Susan Page, Washington bureau chief of USA Today, interviewed former First Lady Barbara Bush 6 times before she died and was given access to her diaries. Page joins Ben Domenech on the Federalist Radio Hour to discuss her new book “The Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of an American Dynasty.” They discuss Bush’s relationship with Nancy Reagan, her views on abortion, and her family’s legacy.

“In her diaries, she would return again and again to Robin,” Page said. “When she thought about issues like abortion or HIV/AIDS, she would use Robin as a touchstone as she tried to think through what she thought about these issues.”
