Most social media is known for spurring fights and dividing users further apart. The website Nextdoor says they are trying to do the opposite.

Steve Wymer is the Vice President of Communications and Policy at Nextdoor, the private social network for neighborhoods. On this episode of the Federalist Radio Hour, Executive Editor Joy Pullmann interviews Wymer on how Nextdoor differs from other other social media sites in solving local problems, encouraging positive interactions among neighbors, and discouraging anonymous users.

“In a perfect world…the true power of the platform is not fully realized if people aren’t connecting and then engaging offline,” Wymer said. “I still believe there is tremendous value in the power of collective information for someone who may not be able to pursue those kinds of in person relationships.”
