“No moderator could have managed a debate of that magnitude better than Chris,” said Fox News Media’s CEO Suzanne Scott and President Jay Wallace.
It was not just Wallace’s interruptions or poor management that cemented his role as worst debate moderator of all time, but the off-topic and ridiculous framing of his questions.
Joe Rogan authentically represents an informed but perpetually curious everyman better than any interlocutor in the media.
Such depth and substance is why the Democrat debates are worth watching. Who wants to listen to the actual merits (or lack thereof) of the candidates when they can argue over who said what?
As with Alex Trebek the quiz show host, Trebek the moderator should seek to blend himself into the background, rather than seeking even more power to make a spectacle of himself:
Moderator Chris Wallace was the big winner. Trump did well, Clinton did fine, and the media continued embarrassing themselves.
Senior Editors David Harsanyi and Mollie Hemingway debate Donald Trump’s surprising performance, the moderators’ odd decisions, and whether town halls are from Satan.
Guy Benson and Amelia Hamilton join today’s Federalist Radio Hour to talk better debate moderators, universal preschool, and more.
Debate moderators are confused about their jobs, and spend too much time interrupting and weighing in. Let’s just get rid of them.
