Federalist Contributor Michael Alfonso won a decisive victory Tuesday night to be the GOP nominee for a Wisconsin-based U.S. House seat. If elected this fall, he would become the youngest member of Congress.

Unfinalized results show that, with more than 95 percent of votes tabulated, Alfonso, 26, is projected to win the Republican primary for the Badger State’s 7th Congressional District with 48.9 percent of the vote. Fellow contenders Kevin Hermening and Jessi Ebben are projected to finish second and third with 26.6 and 15.7 percent support, respectively.

Candidates Niina Baum and Don Raihala each received less than 10 percent of the vote.

“I think the voters of the 7th District want someone with the energy to represent the entire district but with their very same values of faith, family, and freedom,” Alonso said in a post-victory interview. “The amount of work that not just me, but my wife [fellow Federalist Contributor Evita Duffy-Alfonso], my own parents put into coming to every single parade, it means the world to have them here tonight, to be celebrating with them because, in the end, that’s what really matters is family.”

The son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who previously represented Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District until 2019, Alfonso enjoyed support from major conservative backers heading into Tuesday’s primary. This included an endorsement from President Trump, who participated in a tele-rally for the Wisconsin Republican last month.

“It is my Great Honor to endorse MAGA Warrior, Michael Alfonso, a young ‘STAR’ who is running to represent the incredible people of Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District,” Trump wrote on Truth Social ahead of Tuesday’s election. “As your next Congressman, Michael will work tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Champion our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Support our Military/Veterans, Safeguard our Elections, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment.”

Alfonso also received support from Turning Point Action, the 501(c)(4) political advocacy arm of Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA.

Alfonso notably penned a Federalist article in June defending children with Down syndrome — such as his sister-in-law Valentina — against abortion extremists. The piece was authored in response to a popular YouTuber and his wife announcing that they had aborted their unborn baby after learning that the child might have Down syndrome.

Alfonso will face Democrat Fred Clark this November. The seat is considered to be “safe Republican,” according to RealClearPolling.
