If there’s anything about the Jason Arday saga that scandalized you, then you remain an easy mark for the left’s never-ending scam known as “social justice.”
Arday resigned last week from his professorship at Cambridge University after he drew international scrutiny for very obviously plagiarizing much of his “scholarly” work and almost certainly fabricating a bunch of absurd details about his personal biography. (Among my favorites is that he ran 30 marathons in nearly as many days.)
If Arday weren’t black this would have never made headlines, let alone multiple articles in The New York Times. But he is black — “the youngest Black professor at the University of Cambridge in its history,” so get excited — and rather than seeing him quietly disappear, the leftist institutions that permit and encourage such fraudulence are excusing him and, naturally, accusing the people who notice it of racism.
Arday lost his job, but a major publisher released his memoir Tuesday, and a letter of support for him sports thousands of signatures, including from members of the British Parliament.
This is because Arday perpetuates the left’s social justice scam and he does it in spades. He’s an ethnic minority in a European country, he claims all kinds of oppression and victimhood, and he’s a child of African immigrants (he says). It all bestows on Arday a special kind of moral authority, according to the left. And it doesn’t matter whether he lied. It’s even to his credit that he did. It means he knows what’s expected to advance.
People like Arday exist all throughout Western Europe and the U.S. They’re in academia, the media, Hollywood, and of course Washington. Their professed oppression is their privilege, earning them financial gain, cushy jobs, titles, and accolades. The scam reveals itself most vividly in all the black and brown Democrats who won’t shut up about white supremacy yet are married and shacked up with white men. Don Lemon, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Kamala Harris, and on and on.
If there is any surprise left to this scheme, it’s that anyone still gets away with it. It’s exhausting, destructive, and ultimately incoherent, leaving in its wake just a bunch of exposed frauds like Arday.
