If there’s ever a doubt as to how perverse the Democrat approach to the justice system truly is, think back to what just happened to a 37-year-old woman named Shiloh Hendrix.
Hendrix on Thursday was sentenced by a judge in Rochester, Minnesota, to 200 hours of community service and fined $1,000. All of that is for an incident captured on video at a playground last year, wherein Hendrix was seen holding her young child and walking away from a man who was demanding that she speak to him.
If I were a content creator with The New York Times or CNN, this is where I’d leave out all the additional context regarding this incident, but because I’m honest, here’s the rest: Prior to what’s seen on camera, an 8-year-old boy had rummaged through Hendrix’s bag and taken something. Hendrix, who is white, approached the boy and used a racial slur. A bystander who saw the interaction then started video recording, demanding that Hendrix use the slur again.
She told him to mind his business and began to walk away. The man recording, Sharmake Omar, follows Hendrix and dares her to say it again. Hendrix replies, “F— you,” and uses the slur several more times and then continues walking away. Omar follows her still. After Hendrix says the 8-year-old took something from her, the two argue some more, and Hendrix ultimately walks off, still holding her child.
That’s what earned Hendrix two disorderly conduct charges from the city prosecutor. She was acquitted of one — the one regarding her interaction with the 8-year-old — and convicted of the other, which involved Omar, the videographer. Hendrix never put her hands on anyone, other than to hold her own child, and the only time she engaged another person was to retrieve her belongings and to tell a bystander to back off. Her only offense otherwise was to use a slur, which was, admittedly, the worst she could possibly use.
There’s no defense for anyone using racial slurs, the same way, say, autism is no defense for theft. But it’s a crime in itself that Hendrix was prosecuted at all.
Under the old America, it wasn’t a crime to say something offensive in response to being offended, and it wasn’t a crime to walk away from an attempted provocation. Under the new America, that’s no longer true, at least if you’re white. Under the new America, Democrats and the dying media across the nation will fly first class to your defense if you’re a black person or illegal alien trying to evade arrest, steal, or use racist arguments to tear down unassuming Americans.
Public and private property is torched and looted in major cities if a drug addict ends up dead while resisting arrest — so long as he’s black. But a white woman who uses a slur after having her things stolen is nearly locked up for three months. That’s the Democrat version of American justice.
