The Atlanta Braves defeated the Houston Astros on Tuesday night 7-0 to clinch their first World Series win since 1995.
The Braves started off the World Series with a game one win. After a couple of close calls with the Astros tying up the series, the Atlanta team finally knocked out their opponents with a 4-2 series ending.
The team’s new title of reigning baseball champions follows a rocky season filled with ups and downs and the lowest record of wins, 88, for any of this year’s playoff teams. Shortly after acquiring key players Adam Duvall, Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario, and Jorge Soler, the team gained enough steam to power through the fatigue of a long season to claim victory.
The win comes just months after Major League Baseball and its Commissioner Rob Manfred yanked the All-Star Game out of Atlanta in April to lobby against the Election Integrity Act passed by the state’s GOP-controlled legislature.
“I have decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB draft,” Manfred said at the time. “Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box.”
President Joe Biden and other companies gladly threw their support behind the MLB, earning the wrath of former President Donald Trump, who asked his supporters to “boycott baseball and all of the woke companies that are interfering with Free and Fair Elections.”
The game, originally scheduled to be played at the Braves’s Truist Park in July, was later relocated to Coor’s Field in Denver.
