The Federalist’s New York correspondent David Marcus joined “Tucker Carlson Tonight” to discuss his cover article for the New York Post calling to end the city’s lockdown.

“I wrote this piece this weekend when I saw images of New Yorkers at about 4:30 in the morning, hours before this Catholic church opened that was offering food because they were hungry and they need food. When I saw those images, it was really when I went from being frustrated with Governor [Andrew] Cuomo and Mayor [Bill] de Blasio to being furious,” Marcus said. “People are going hungry, small businesses are being destroyed, jobs are evaporating, our kids aren’t being educated, people can’t get cancer screenings.”

Marcus said Cuomo treats citizen response to New York’s insane lockdown as if New Yorkers are complaining they don’t have enough Netflix shows to watch. The reality is, they’re going hungry.

In his New York Post article, Marcus explained how the initial reasons for extreme lockdowns in New York City were to avoid overwhelming the health care system. As we now know, New York City did not overwhelm their health care system. Marcus simply asks: why is New York shut down if we’ve achieved our initial goal?

In mid-March, we were told we have to endure a lockdown to ensure that hospitals didn’t get overrun. We did. The hospitals were not overwhelmed. We turned the Javits Center into a hospital. We didn’t need it. We brought in a giant Navy ship to treat New Yorkers. We didn’t need it.

We were told we were moments away from running out of ventilators. We weren’t, and now the United States has built so many, we are giving them away to other countries…

What the hell is going on? Is anybody in charge of this situation? Or are we just left with the governor and his talking-head brother arguing on CNN about which of the two Ma loves best?

Marcus’s article has garnered the attention of significant New York politicos including former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

“This should be taken seriously,” Giuliani tweeted in all caps.

On “The View,” co-host Meghan McCain asked Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., about Marcus’s call to reopen New York City now.

“We see a lot of people protesting these stay-at-home orders all over the country and there are businesses that are actually defying their Governors and reopening local stores. Even in our own local paper this morning, the New York Post, this is the cover: it needs to end now. People are desperate to get back to work. If we don’t do something soon, what will be left for people to come back to?” McCain asked.

Schumer responded by saying he’s not listening to the cries of constituents to reopen businesses, he’s only listening to “experts.”

“You can’t listen to somebody who just says we have to just listen to the health experts. On the other hand, you can’t listen to somebody who says just listen to the economic experts,” Schumer said. “You can’t let newspaper headlines, and I know that one was the New York Post, or a thousand people protesting determine the policy. You have to have experts.”

As Marcus put it in his article, Cuomo, de Blasio, Schumer, and other politicians “serve by our consent; we don’t run our businesses or live our lives by their consent. The suggestion to the contrary is an affront to Americanism.”
