Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) sat down with rapper Cardi B at a nail salon in Detroit to record an ad for his presidential campaign.
The video started with Cardi B asking Sanders if he was ever afraid to make powerful people (like her, perhaps?) angry. Sanders responded, “Cardi, that’s what I’ve been doing my whole life.”
Prior to this video, Cardi B asked her followers on Instagram questions they would like to ask a Democratic candidate. She mentioned that she wants to know what candidates will do about police brutality.
Cardi B asked Sanders that question. Sanders responded by saying that offering free postsecondary education would curb the incarceration rates for minorities, dodging Cardi B’s question. Sanders also said the U.S. Department of Justice must investigate every single police shooting. Finally, he made a nod to affirmative action and racial selection in hiring police officers by saying that police must “look like” the neighborhoods they are working in.
Sharing a similar complexion does not seem to be as much of a priority in some neighborhoods as effective policing. Some attacks on police happen even when they are minorities. After six officers were shot in a standoff with a man in Philadelphia, for example, crowds of people booed and hit the police officers as they walked by. It appears four of the six officers were minorities, but that didn’t prevent people from assaulting them.

The other questions asked in the 11-minute Sanders ad included:
- What are we going to do for DREAMers?
- How are we going to pay for everything?
- What are we going to do about wages?
- How can we eliminate student debt?
Prior to Cardi B’s sit-down with Sanders, Prager U host Candace Owens offered $250,000 to a political campaign of Cardi B’s choosing if Cardi B would debate either Owens or another black conservative of her choosing.
Cardi B claimed that her goal was to educate the people who listen to her music. She told Owens wanted to sit down with Sanders because she admires his passion.
Why don’t you use that 250k for a charity that will be more helpful.I like Bernie because since the 60s he’s been fighting for https://t.co/HJ7iDjllir looks like progression is really his passion.I still want to ask other candidates questions that my followers would like to know. https://t.co/yucoeBJdd3

Cardi B has a track record of promoting socialist ideals to her fans. In a recent tweet she quoted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and she recently promoted Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on her Instagram. Both are known for their socialist stances and brash rhetoric.

Oddly enough, despite Cardi B’s promotion of socialist politicians, last year a video went viral of her complaining about how high taxes are, even though socialism by definition always raises taxes, especially on high earners like her. Now that the interview has aired, Cardi B has yet to explain her post-interview thoughts to her followers.
