The U.S. fertility rate recently dropped to a historic low. What are demographers saying about this downturn? Should humans stop procreating to fight climate change? “What if we did cut fertility in half? Yes, in 100 years, 50 years even that would result in meaningful amounts of emissions reductions,” Stone said. “But if you believe the scientific research that’s motivating this whole argument, that’s too late. You’re past the point of no return.”
