Mike Reiss is the longest-serving writer and producer of “The Simpsons.” Ben Domenech interviews Reiss about his new book, “Springfield Confidential: Jokes, Secrets, and Outright Lies from a Lifetime Writing for The Simpsons.” They discuss the outrage against Apu, Simpsons predictions, and the behind-the-scenes of joke writing.

“There are a lot of things that we don’t do on the show anymore just because they got harder and harder to do,” Reiss said. “People love Bart making prank phone calls to Moe and those are surprisingly hard…and even though everybody talks about them, Bart hasn’t made one of those phone calls in 25 years.”
