A man tried to rob a gun store in Brooklyn, New York, Wednesday morning, but was in for a rude awakening when the owner of the gun store shot at him.
When the owner of the sporting goods store, DF Brothers Sports Center, asked to see the suspect’s permit to legally purchase a firearm, the suspect pepper-sprayed the 60-year-old man, CBS New York reports. He then smashed a display case with a hammer and tried to run off with two handguns, but the gun store owner was not having it. He fired at the suspect, who was wearing dark glasses and a baseball hat. The shots spurred the thief to drop the guns and flee.
Police say they found blood on the scene from the suspect, but aren’t sure if he was bleeding due to a gunshot wound or hurt his hand while smashing the glass case.
The suspect is still on the loose. Authorities have released surveillance footage of the incident in hopes that it’ll help them catch the wannabe thief.
Pro tip: don’t rob a gun store, where you can assume everyone behind the counter is armed.
