Pennsylvania court documents show that Cosby’s case will be prosecuted by district attorney Kevin R. Steele, a career attorney who was just re-elected as Montgomery county prosecutor last November.
Cosby is official charged with three separate counts related to the alleged sexual assault of Andrea Constand, a former professional basketball star, in January of 2004. After prosecutors initially refused to press charges against Cosby, Constand filed a civil suit against the former comedian and television personality.
Constand is not the only woman who claims to be a sexual assault victim of Bill Cosby. Dozens of other women also claim to have been victimized by Cosby, who allegedly drugged women in order to have sex with them.
Cosby, a stand-up comedian who found fame as a network sitcom star, denies the allegations and claims that all of his sexual encounters with women were consensual.
The case against Cosby has been assigned to district judge Elizabeth A. McHugh.
