American taxpayers have shelled out more than $1.5 billion in tax dollars over a three-year period, according to a new study by the Government Accountability Office.
The bulk of this funding came from Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
The report also stated that four of the five Planned Parenthood affiliates who got the biggest checks courtesy of American taxpayers were referred to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for an ongoing criminal investigation.
Federal law bars taxpayer dollars from funding abortion procedures. Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers say the money they receive from the government does not go to pay for abortions, but for other services it offers. However, funds are fungible. Once an abortion provider gets its hands on government money, it controls how that money is spent.
