Federalist senior editor Mollie Hemingway joined Fox Business’s “Mornings With Maria” on Wednesday to weigh in on who Donald Trump should pick for his running mate.
“Mike Rowe would be an awesome guy,” she said.
As an outspoken TV personality, Rowe would make an excellent choice for Trump, she said, because it would send a message to the American electorate that he wasn’t backing down on who he is.
“Bill Clinton doubled down on who he was,” she said. “People said that he [Clinton] couldn’t win, and he went with another Southern, moderate Democrat when he picked Al Gore. He didn’t try and do that thing people do when they try to pick someone very different than them, and it worked out well for him in 1992.”
Hemingway said Trump could also pick someone like Newt Gingrich, because it would reassure conservatives that actual conservative policies would be considered.
“He could also pick no one,” she said. “He could let the convention pick someone, and they could run sort of separately.”
Hemingway outlined five running mate ideas for Donald Trump back in March, in which she made made the case for Rowe, Gingrich, and others.
