The Stand With Hillary music video is here, and it’s spectacular.
This is a far cry from the sort of musical act Hillary’s team was putting out back in 2008, but it still has all the earnestness and inauthentic purpose of everything about the early Ready For Hillary 2016 effort.
But the really remarkable aspect of this video is how, when you contrast it with the approach used by Barack Obama, you can see the fissures in the Democratic coalition laid bare, and shows how hard the Clintons are going to have to work to reconnect with the white working class. Remember what Obama supporters were putting out in this vein back in 2008?
In just a few short years we’ve gone from the cultic celeb-filled Millennial signals of Will.I.Am and his Hollywood friends to a down-home country group with the symbolism and music of a Chevy commercial. The attempt to pander to the white working class voters left out by the Democratic agenda for so many years is obvious and clumsy, but also revealing, signaling their perception of what’s happened to the electorate in the course of the Obama era. The desperation to win back voters who like this sort of music is blatant, and I expect we’ll only see more of it in the coming months.
