Underhanded or ‘dirty’ political tactics are nothing new to democratic nations, and sometimes, unsavory means are needed to secure victory over evil.
Vilification is a form of psychological terrorism. Because the fury displayed by those leveling the charges is so relentless and uncompromising, it carries its own threat.
Perhaps an apt metaphor for ritual defamation is the gang rape of one’s character and good name. This episode represents a rape of the rule of law, and of Brett Kavanaugh’s character.
Merely pointing out inconsistency does nothing to address the problems our nation faces, except perhaps to diminish the hypocrite’s credibility.
