How I Plan To Halt Big Government’s Covid Tyranny Once And For All

The End Covid Tyranny Act would ensure that the only ones deciding what is best and safest for American families are themselves.

People often say that power corrupts, but in reality, power reveals.

The pandemic put unprecedented power in the hands of people who should’ve never had it in the first place, and they wasted no time in attempting to exert control. If there’s one thing we learned during the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s that bureaucrats in agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had absolutely no qualms about throwing individual liberties out the window to force Americans into complying with their “recommendations,” constantly admonishing people to “trust the science.”

Empty suits like Anthony Fauci waxed philosophic about how people need to “mask up” and get the vaccine to stop transmission. Teachers unions and their leader Randi Weingarten attempted to force masks on kids all day — even though Covid-19 poses very little threat to children — and pioneered school shutdowns, setting our kids back years. A recent study shows that masking children was utterly ineffective, yet those who advocated against it were accused of being murderers or anti-science radicals. OSHA attempted to enforce a vaccine mandate on millions and millions of Americans. When I was Missouri’s attorney general, I fought a lot of important fights and won against a lot of these mandates.

If you think this type of tyranny can’t happen again, you’re dead wrong. It appears China has brought back masking and social distancing with a mystery illness sweeping the country. Back in September, a Maryland elementary school issued a mask mandate on their kids. If you think the mandates can’t come back, they absolutely can.

The egregious violations of personal rights like mask mandates and vaccine requirements for federal employees occurred at the behest of bureaucrats in alphabet agencies that nobody voted for, and it seems as though they’re trying to bring it back. Talks of reinstating mask mandates are resurfacing in light of recent seasonal upticks in Covid-19 cases, but we cannot sit idly by and allow more overreaching government mandates. That’s exactly why I’m introducing the End Covid Tyranny Act — to ensure that even in times such as a pandemic, our freedoms and the principles of democracy, transparency, and the rule of law will be upheld.

The playbook has already been written — declare an emergency and stoke fear into Americans, then implement mandates that infringe on citizens’ individual rights under the guise that it will protect them. It started with requiring masks and quickly escalated to the government shutting down small businesses whose owners’ livelihoods depended on customers being able to visit those businesses.

The End Covid Tyranny Act would ban mask mandates for Head Start programs, limit the scope of public health authorities strictly to disease control, prevent vaccine status from influencing organ transplant eligibility, and require congressional approval for public health emergencies lasting longer than 90 days.

This bill would also implement serious reforms to the CDC and National Institutes of Health (NIH), including requiring congressional appointment of the CDC director and adding term limits to the CDC and NIH directors.

What we saw during the pandemic was one of the most egregious overhauls of our civil liberties in recent memory, and my End Covid Tyranny Act would prevent any future attempts to do so again.

As Missouri’s attorney general, I filed suit against dozens of public schools for requiring masks on children as young as 3 or 4 years old and held the Department of Transportation’s feet to the fire when it implemented nonsense mask mandates for commercial airlines. I took multiple cases all the way to the Supreme Court and won. With the CDC seemingly licking its lips at another chance to enforce these mandates on Americans, we need a proactive approach. We must remember all that was allowed previously, and do everything in our power to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

The End Covid Tyranny Act would ensure that the only ones deciding what is best and safest for American families are themselves.
