Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Monday.
“I am saddened to report that Florida’s esteemed First Lady and my beloved wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer,” the Republican said in a statement. “As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as First Lady.”
Casey, 41-years old, won an Emmy after she worked as a host for the PGA Tour. She married Ron in 2010.
Since the governor assumed office in 2019, Casey helped create numerous initiatives including Hope Florida – A Pathway to Prosperity, Economic Self-Sufficiency and Hope, which is designed to help children and families in Florida gain economic self-sufficiency. Casey also led the formation of the Resiliency Florida initiative, which uses professional athletic icons to inspire students dealing with mental health issues; the Hope Ambassadors program, which provides a mentoring network for schoolchildren to help instill kindness; and she successfully facilitated the Character Education Standards designed for K-12 schools.
The couple has three children together: Madison, their 4-year-old daughter; Mason, their 3-year-old son; and Mamie, their 18-month-old daughter.
“As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will have not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state,” the governor concluded. “Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up.”
