House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was exposed for attending a shut-down hair salon in San Francisco Monday without a face mask while the business remains closed to the public. Pelosi joins a long list of Democratic politicians blowing off the very lockdown orders they’ve imposed on the American people.

On Tuesday, Fox News broke the story releasing security footage that shows Pelosi in the salon with wet hair and no face covering despite everyone else in the shop adhering to indoor mask guidelines.

“It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can’t work,” salon owner Erica Kious told Fox News, noting she “can’t believe” the House speaker wore no mask.

“We’re supposed to look up to this woman, right?” Kious said. “It is just disturbing.”

Pelosi’s office confirmed Tuesday the Democratic leader’s presence, claiming she did nothing wrong.

“The speaker always wears a mask and complies with local COVID requirements,” Pelosi’s Deputy Chief of Staff Drew Hammill said in a statement.

San Francisco is under a mask mandate requiring residents to don face coverings to enter any local business. Here’s the text of the guidance on San Francisco’s government website:

“This business offered for the speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business. The speaker complied with the rules as presented to her by this establishment,” Hammill said.

Kious told a different story, telling Fox News she was reluctant to allow one of the employees renting a chair in her salon to provide service for Pelosi but said there was nothing she could do to prevent it.

In April, Pelosi said on national television it was “really unfortunate” that people were pushing back on coronavirus restrictions such as mask mandates. The Democratic House speaker now belongs to a growing group of Democrat politicians condemning those who refuse to adhere to lockdown orders while privately ignoring them.

In a nearly identical episode this summer, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot got a haircut in early April despite having ordered the city’s salons and barbershops shut down. After the mayor’s visit became public, Lightfoot defended her actions, telling reporters at a press conference it’s because she’s important.

“I’m the public face of this city,” Lightfoot said. “I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye.”

Add to the list New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo out in public without a mask and Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, whose husband sought to leverage his wife’s position to circumvent Memorial Day travel restrictions to get the family boat in the water.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has also been caught flouting his own coronavirus restrictions by going to the gym in March the day after he closed bars, schools, and restaurants. De Blasio closed the city’s gyms the next day.

On Monday, Philadelphia’s Democrat Mayor Jim Kenney tweeted an apology after being spotted enjoying time at an indoor restaurant in Maryland while indoor dining remains prohibited in Philadelphia.

“I know some are upset that I dined indoors at a restaurant in Maryland yesterday,” Kenney wrote on Twitter. “I felt the risk was low because the county I visited has had fewer than 800 COVID-19 cases, compared to over 33,000 cases in Philadelphia. Regardless, I understand the frustration.”
