Marcus Coleman, Joe Abraham, and Doug Quets spent this Father’s Day with missing pieces in their hearts.

The three men come from different places, different backgrounds, different experiences, but they all share a broken-hearted bond: They are all Angel Dads — victims of President Joe Biden’s immigration invasion. They were recognized Sunday as the Department of Homeland Security’s “Why.”

“THIS IS OUR WHY,” DHS wrote in a press release and post on X, which included photos of fathers with their children, who were seriously hurt or killed in encounters with illegal immigrants. Crimes that never should have happened would not have happened had politicians like Biden put the security of Americans over the cynical politics of mass migration.

“This Father’s Day, the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) honors fathers, children, and spouses forever changed by violent crimes committed by illegal aliens who should have never been in our country,” the press release from DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin states

Pain Into Purpose and Love Into Action

Coleman’s daughter, Dalilah, was badly injured in 2024 when an illegal alien driving an 18-wheeler “recklessly” struck the 5-year-old girl, according to DHS. She suffered life-altering injuries in the multiple-vehicle pileup caused by a driver who, DHS said, shouldn’t have been in the country, let alone behind the wheel of a semi-tractor-trailer.

The family is urging Congress to pass Dalilah’s Law, which would prohibit illegal immigrants and unqualified applicants from obtaining commercial driver’s licenses, require English-only license tests, and punish states that defy the law.

“Dalilah changed my life forever,” Marcus Coleman told DHS. “She taught me that being a father is more than providing — it’s protecting, advocating, and refusing to stay silent when change is needed. This Father’s Day, I honor and stand with every Angel Father who turns his pain into purpose and his love into action.”

Joe Abraham’s 20-year-old daughter Katie was killed by an illegal immigrant in January 2025. The previously deported foreign national was driving drunk at nearly 80 miles per hour in a residential area of Urbana, Illinois, when his vehicle smashed into the car Katie was riding in. She and another college-aged woman died from their injuries.

“This Father’s Day, our family is once again facing the unimaginable reality that Katie is not here,” Abraham said in the DHS press release. “We should be celebrating her graduation from Ohio University and looking forward to all the milestones still ahead of her. Instead, we carry the weight of everything that was taken from her, and from us.”

The suburban Chicago father has become a tireless advocate for border security and immigration law reform, and a vocal critic of far-left Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Democrat-dominated state legislature. The Land of Lincoln’s sanctuary policies, Abraham asserts, have robbed taxpayers and stolen young lives like Katie’s.

Quets’ son Nicholas, a 31-year-old Tucson, Arizona, native and Marine Corps veteran, was murdered during a trip to Mexico by Sinaloa Cartel members while traveling with friends to Rocky Point.

“The terrorists, emboldened by failed Biden-era U.S. immigration policies which were weaponized against us, pursued Nick in eleven vehicles stolen from U.S. citizens on both sides of the border,” Quets said in the DHS press release. “After identifying him as a U.S. citizen they cowardly shot Nick in the back, through the heart, using weapons smuggled south from the U.S. effectively.

“Cartels exploited our uncontrolled border and weaponized our unenforced immigration laws against all of us. While nothing will bring Nick back, we are exceptionally grateful President Trump signed Executive Order 14157 designating Sinaloa and other Mexican cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs),” the father said.

Giving VOICE

Trump inherited an absolute mess from his autopen predecessor. Biden’s open-border policies sparked an illegal immigration invasion of the United States, sapping community resources and compromising homeland security.

Since Trump began his second term DHS has reported 13 straight months of zero illegal aliens released into the United States. DHS also reports that apprehensions per day along the southwest border were 94 percent lower than the monthly average under Biden. As of April, “total U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions along the southwest border during all of this fiscal year through April were 37% lower than just one month on average from FYs 1992 through 2024.” And “seizures of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and marijuana … increased 60% from April 2024.”

Additionally, the Trump administration relaunched the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement Office (VOICE). Biden had shut it down. VOICE provides direct access to illegal alien custody information, victim services, and guidance on legal issues.

DHS said the office over the past year has taken nearly 900 calls — “each representing a person seeking help amid trauma with a nexus to immigration.”

“Every day, DHS works tirelessly to prevent another tragedy from happening to another family like theirs,” Homeland Security said of the three Angel Dads in its press release.
