It appears that not a single congressional Democrat at the State of the Union agreed that the United States government is meant to serve Americans, not illegal aliens.
Speaking to the American people, President Donald Trump offered an opportunity for legislators on both sides to acknowledge that the “first duty of American government is to protect American citizens.”
“One of the great things about the State of the Union is how it gives Americans the chance to see clearly what their representatives really believe,” Trump said. “So tonight, I’m inviting every legislator to join with my administration in reaffirming a fundamental principle. If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support. The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.”
It appears not a single Democrat stood up.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller said in a post on X, “The immortal visual of the entire Democrat party — upon explicit repeated invitation — refusing to stand for the core moral principle that US government owes its allegiance to US citizens and not foreign criminal invaders, is the most shocking image in the history of the US Congress.”
Of course such utter disdain for the American people is unsurprising, given Democrats have consistently fought tooth and nail on behalf of illegal aliens and foreigners. Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen, for example, flew to El Salvador to try and obtain the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal alien with deportation orders. Abrego Garcia is allegedly a member of MS-13 and a domestic abuser.
Democrats in California — under Gov. Gavin Newsom’s leadership — allocated $35 million in taxpayer dollars for illegal aliens facing deportations and $15 million to “fully fund 33 removal defense organizations over the next two years.” Other Democrat-led states have introduced legislation ending cooperation with immigration enforcement, instead choosing to shield illegal aliens.
Shortly after Trump took office, 156 House Democrats voted against the Laken Riley Act, legislation that honors Riley, who was brutally murdered by an illegal alien. The legislation in part requires federal authorities to detain illegal aliens charged with crimes like theft, burglary, larceny, and shoplifting.
In November Democrat Rep. Mike Quigley posted a video and asserted that immigration officers “took a preschool teacher without a warrant IN FRONT OF CHILDREN in my district.” Rep. Delia Ramirez used the incident as an opportunity to call for defunding ICE.
The woman seen in the video, however, was an illegal alien who allegedly fled law enforcement and, along with another individual, “ran into a daycare and attempted to barricade themselves inside the daycare — recklessly endangering the children inside.”
But that’s just the type of person Democrats are eager to defend.
