On this episode of The Federalist Radio Hour, Niels Jorgensen, a retired New York City firefighter and host of the “20 For 20” podcast, joins Culture Editor Emily Jashinsky and Senior Editor Christopher Bedford to discuss his quest to document the stories of 9/11 heroes so that younger generations never forget.

“One of our main missions with ’20 For 20′ is to tell the stories of these beautiful, wonderful, selfless people that gave everything that day. And many of them have never returned to their families,” Jorgensen said. “As we like to say, we’re willing to give up every one of our tomorrows so you can finish your today and my beautiful, brave friends did that … and I’m now on a little bit of a mission to get that out there because I feel like we truly have forgotten.”

The people who sacrificed their lives for others, Jorgensen said, are true heroes who deserve recognition every day of the year.

“That’s the beauty of America. There are strangers out there willing to give their lives for us and they don’t even know us,” Jorgensen said. “That’s powerful. That’s what we’re doing. We’re trying to get the stories of these heroes out there.”
