Saying There’s A Border ‘Surge’ Is White Supremacist ‘Cause Migrant Kids Aren’t ‘Insurgents,’ Says AOC

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed there is no “surge” at the southern border, while also saying the term is indicative of white supremacy.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said the ongoing border “surge” term is rooted in white supremacy in an Instagram live video on Tuesday.

“They want to say, ‘What about the surge?’ Well, first of all, just gut check, stop,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Anyone who’s using the term ‘surge’ around you consciously is trying to invoke a militaristic frame. And that’s a problem because this is not a surge — these are children. They are not insurgents, and we are not being invaded. Which, by the way, is a white supremacist idea, philosophy. The idea that if an ‘other’ is coming in the population that this is an invasion of who we are.”

The congresswoman’s claim that there is no surge, and therefore no crisis, at the southern border is verifiably false. Both Democrats and Republicans have acknowledged the number of unaccompanied minors being apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol is staggering, even though President Joe Biden deflected the issue and blamed former President Trump in his first press conference.

As reported by Axios on Monday, the Biden administration “is facing unheard of numbers of migrant kids illegally crossing the border this fiscal year — from 159,000 to 184,000.”

“Even the low-end estimate is double the total number of kids who tried to cross during the crisis year of 2019. In 2014, the Obama administration struggled to care for just 69,000 kids who crossed illegally,” the report continued. “The data obtained by Axios did not include projections for migrant families, but the Department of Homeland Security is expecting from 500,000 to 800,000 migrants crossing the border this fiscal year in family groups, the Washington Post reported Sunday. The numbers would be equal to or greater than in 2019, compounding the growing crisis.”

For the past three weeks, more than 550 unaccompanied minors have flooded over the southern border each day. Federal agents are expected to bring in the most children and teenagers ever in a single month.

More than denying the clear facts that there is an ongoing crisis at the border, AOC went so far as to claim that even acknowledging the truth means you are a white supremacist. In the previous administration, AOC said the migrant detention centers were equivalent to “concentration camps.” Now that Biden is in office, however, she has changed her tune on what is transpiring.

“It’s not a border crisis. It’s an imperialism crisis, it’s a climate crisis, it’s a trade crisis, and also it’s a carceral crisis,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

Furthermore, Ocasio-Cortez’s belief that the word “surge” comes from “insurgent” indicates the elected official might benefit from a middle-school language arts course. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, “insurgent” is defined as “a person who revolts against civil authority or an established government.” Also according to Merriam-Webster, “surge” means “to rise and fall actively.”

“Funny how AOC raced down to TX for the winter storm but she can’t be bothered to come down now to see what’s happening,” Townhall editor Julio Rosas tweeted in regard to how the congresswoman was quick to visit Texas after Republican Sen. Ted Cruz’s controversy but has yet to visit the migrant holding centers.

AOC and other Democrats who continue to invoke the term white supremacy to define anything they disagree with lessen their credibility daily.
