Former Ohio State Democratic Sen. Nina Turner, who now works as a CNN political commentator, demanded that the United States redeem itself from its exhaustively oppressive past that is “rooted in racism.”

Turner’s remarks came as a response to Anderson Cooper airing a segment of President Donald Trump charging the Democrats with running one of the “darkest” and “gloomiest” political conventions since their beginning.

“Over the last week, the Democrats held the darkest and angriest and gloomiest convention in American history. They spent four straight days attacking America as racist and a horrible country that must be redeemed,” Trump said in Arlington, Virginia, just days away from Republicans kicking off their own online event next week.

“I’m wondering what you make of it,” Cooper asked Turner.

“The country definitely needs to be redeemed,” Turner proclaimed.

This country is racist. It’s rooted in racism. When we talk about the story of immigration, it’s not some pretty picture. It is a country that was founded on the backs and the blood and the sweat and the tears of enslaved Africans and the first-generation born on this soil of African-Americans for generations. It is a nation that stole the land from indigenous people.

Democrats wrapped up their virtual convention this week on Thursday featuring former Vice President Joe Biden formally accepting the party’s 2020 presidential nomination with California Sen. Kamala Harris as the running mate.

Just hours before Biden’s convention speech, which landed abysmal ratings, Trump traveled to a Pennsylvania near Biden’s hometown to hammer the Democrats painting Biden as a vehicle for the radical left’s woke revolution. In his visit, Trump railed against what he dubbed the Democratic Party’s war on police, campaign to disparage dissent, order indefinite lockdowns, pledge allegiance to socialism and accelerate American carnage. All topics which are likely a preview of the attacks to come during the eight hours of RNC prime time next week.

“They want to cancel you,” Trump told the rowdy Pennsylvania crowd. “Totally cancel you.”
