In an epic rant, syndicated talk show host and personal finance expert Dave Ramsey slammed voters who expect politicians to solve all their problems.
In a video uploaded to YouTube last week, Ramsey is seen driving in his car while explaining that the news coverage surrounding presidential elections increases unhealthy expectations among Americans.
Ramsey said voters are misguided if they think a candidate can fix their lives.
“There’s no government program that’s going to fix your life,” he said. “There’s no Republican that, if he gets elected, is going to become Jesus and there’s no Democrat that, if they get elected, is going to be the Jesus in your life and give you everything you ever wanted.”
“It’s an absolute lie,” Ramsey said. He also criticized the rise of a victimhood mentality among Americans.
Although he acknowledged racism, classism, and sexism are real problems that can hurt a person’s chances at success, he explained the only way to overcome such obstacles is to not let yourself become a victim.
“You get up off your butt; you’re the hero of this story, you are not the victim in this story,” he said. “When people tell you that you’re a victim and they have the solution, that makes them the hero. Do not let a politician, do not let a news anchor, become the hero in your story.”
“You are the hero in your story,” he said. “You are in charge of your destiny.”
