House Republicans have nominated Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to be the next Speaker of the House.

During a closed-door vote today, Ryan beat out Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) and the House is expected to ratify Ryan as Speaker on Thursday. Ryan received 200 votes from fellow Republicans, but he will need 218 from the full House to secure the speakership. Webster received 43 votes.

The House is also expected to pass a budget deal today that would fund the government until 2017, which Ryan endorsed this morning. Despite opposition from members of the Freedom Caucus, namely Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) Ryan has decided to back it anyway, though he vocally chastised how it came together.

John Boehner, who announced his resignation over a month ago, plans to step down this week.
