Lyman: GOP Squandered Its 2024 Mandate With Iran War And Do-Nothing Senate

“President Trump was given a mandate in 2024 like no other. We gave him the Republican House, we gave him a Republican Senate, we gave him the popular vote, we gave him every single swing state, he had a 6-3 conservative majority in the Supreme Court, so much so that Democrats were even weary about ‘Oh no what are Republicans going to do with all these tools in their toolbox?’ And what did the Republicans and the president do together? Almost nothing.” The Federalist’s Brianna Lyman said on Fox News at Night. “Every single executive order the president did — which were good — those weren’t codified by Republicans. Every time we asked for the SAVE Act, we simply got Republicans [in the Senate] saying ‘No,’ and we got the president sending out a few Truth Socials, but there wasn’t a messaging campaign to say, ‘No, we need this legislation. Republicans you have to do what it takes.’ I think of the One Big Beautiful Bill — that was good piece of legislation — but that doesn’t make up for all of the things that were not done, that were not codified, that were not pushed.”

“And then you bring in a war that nobody asked for, a war that drove up prices, a war that Republicans knew was going to fail [electorally] because they could look back in history. … This war was the final nail in the coffin, and if this does not get wrapped up, you will not see an opportunity for Republicans to come back in 2028.”
