“I think the reason they do this is they have this cognitive dissonance on one hand, and then on the other hand, I think they actually feel deep shame. I think they know what they’re doing is wrong; they know it’s a lie. And instead of just repenting and asking for forgiveness and telling the truth, they cover their own shame in lies, because they feel so bad about it. Deep down, they know they’re responsible for it, and they just can’t handle it.”
