The approaching 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks is a reminder of the outrageous fact that this election cycle, a Democratic U.S. Senate nominee from a purple state proudly campaigned alongside a man who said “America deserved 9/11.”
Yes, Abdul El-Sayed’s use of the America-loathing, jihadi-sympathizing, Jew-hating Hasan Piker as a surrogate should be disqualifying. But calls for El-Sayed and other leading Democrats to distance themselves from and denounce Piker, and Piker alone, enable the Democrat Party to dodge accountability on a darker issue.
Disassociating from Piker, a single streamer, as some have done in the vaguest and most oblique way possible, is relatively easy. Far harder for Democrats, apparently, is for them to forcefully and with specificity reject his views. Here, by and large, they have gone mum.
Through indoctrination and/or importation, many Americans hold the same odious views as Piker.
The Democratic Socialists of America’s (DSA) 120,000 dues-paying members, polling, and the incoming class of insurgent Red-Green Congress members — to say nothing of a Democrat caucus already overwhelmingly dominated by like-minded members — are a testament to the fact that the left is comprised of countless Pikers.
What Many Believe
They may not express their views as crudely as Piker, and they may lack his platform, but fundamentally, they see the world the same as he does. They believe America is an evil, oppressive, imperialist nation. They believe that we must be punished for our sins.
They believe that their highest calling is to effectuate a left-wing, anti-governmental, anti-capitalist revolution to destroy our institutions, public and private, decapitate their leaders, and collect and redistribute the spoils from their conquest. They believe that America’s enemies are victims of our policies, and therefore that state foes and non-state actors alike, including jihadist organizations, are noble “resistance” forces — that their strikes on the U.S. are “deserved,” that “blowback” is our just comeuppance.
They believe that Jews — adherents to a religion from which Christianity and Western civilization sprang — and their supporters are to blame for every social, political, and economic ill.
And, indeed, they believe that Jews, Christians, conservatives, commonsense Americans of all stripes, and anyone else devoted to protecting and preserving the West are the chief stumbling block to achieving total hegemony — and therefore that it is imperative to make common cause with those who will help them to defeat us, no matter how ruthless and repressive.
The Democrats’ agenda, as I detailed in my book, American Ingrate: Ilhan Omar and the Progressive-Islamist Takeover of the Democratic Party, some six years ago, and as only accelerated during the Biden years and up to today, increasingly reflects this toxic worldview.
This has been demonstrated not only in Democrats’ nominating of DSA and DSA-adjacent candidates for federal office in states as diverse as New York, Florida, and Michigan this year, but most recently when a grand total of only eight out of more than 200 House Democrats could bring themselves to vote for a Sept. 1 resolution condemning socialism.
Party’s Backing of El-Sayed
Perhaps even more telling has been the party establishment’s backing of El-Sayed himself.
The Piker promoter dresses his leftism and Islamic supremacism in a tight-fitting v-neck t-shirt and hides it behind manipulative sloganeering. The Rhodes scholar who, Obama-like, strives to straddle Egypt and Ann Arbor equally, delivers similar rhetoric with the same cadence as the like-minded former president.
In one of his most honest moments, El-Sayed said that “the three million people who listen to Hasan are people I want to make sure understand that there’s a pathway into our politics around getting money out of politics so we can get money back in pockets and pass Medicare for All. And so I’m going to continue to have the conversations with those folks who we desperately need to reach out.”
Translation: El-Sayed wants and needs the Piker vote, and he is running as the politically acceptable vehicle to make their shared worldview a reality — a worldview that, as I have reported extensively at RealClearInvestigations and my Substack, appears to be a product of and contributor to the Muslim Brotherhood’s network in America.
The Democratic establishment appears to view El-Sayed much the same way. The party’s leaders, from former Vice President and presumed presidential candidate Kamala Harris, to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) Chair Kirsten Gillibrand, to Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Ken Martin, and across the Michigan congressional conference all back El-Sayed.
Their endorsements suggest not only that they believe they need him to win the Michigan Senate seat to have a chance to retake the chamber and need to placate his voters, but that they are in directional alignment with him ideologically.
Twenty-five years after 9/11, the Democrats’ embrace of El-Sayed illustrates the extent to which the Islamic supremacist cause in America has advanced, national self-loathing has metastasized, and suicidal sentiments have gripped the American mind.
