LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman is well-known for being a rabid, anti-Trump Democrat Party megadonor who’s bankrolled several of the left’s egregious political schemes in recent years. Now, it appears that some of those antics have landed him in some potentially hot water with the law.
Numerous media outlets reported on Wednesday and Thursday that residential crazy lady E. Jean Carroll is under federal investigation to determine whether she committed perjury in testimony related to her civil lawsuits against President Donald Trump. As described by CNN, federal prosecutors’ alleged theory “hinges on a 2022 deposition statement by Carroll, 82, that she received no outside funding for her lawsuit, though it was later revealed that billionaire Reid Hoffman had paid some legal fees and expenses.”
The media and other Democrats quickly rushed to attack the Trump administration for supposedly probing Carroll, whom they portrayed as a hapless victim being further victimized by Bad Orange Man. As it turns out, however, it’s Hoffman’s nonprofit, American Future Republic, that is reportedly under investigation for its role in funding Carroll’s frivolous get-Trump lawfare.
“MS NOW is reporting that a probe based in a federal prosecutor’s office in Chicago has been described as investigating Jean Carroll but is currently focused on Reid Hoffman and considering some possible charges of money laundering connected to his financial support towards Carroll’s legal fees,” CNBC reported Thursday evening.
Per the Washington Free Beacon, tax filings show that Hoffman’s group paid approximately $7 million to the firm of Carroll’s lawyer as part of her legal crusade against Trump. The Trump legal team “claimed Hoffman’s support damaged Carroll’s credibility,” according to InfluenceWatch.
Hoffman’s backing of Carroll’s truth-challenged lawfare against Trump is hardly the only left-wing venture he’s taken up to attack the president, however.
As The Federalist previously reported, the LinkedIn co-founder played a role in funding a legal nonprofit that defended Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm “behind the famously discredited Christopher Steele dossier at the heart of the Russia [collusion] hoax.” He’s also been all but forced to apologize for financially boosting a “Russia-style” disinformation operation in Alabama’s 2017 Senate race that sought to sway the election for the Democrat candidate.

The Jeffrey Epstein-linked Hoffman’s antics in the legal field additionally include backing Smartmatic amid its lawsuit against Fox News for its 2020 election reporting. The Democrat megadonor did not respond to The Federalist’s previous request for comment on whether he’d continue his support for the company amid bribery allegations involving its co-founder.
And to put the cherry on top, Hoffman also has a penchant for funding so-called “news” organizations that conveniently boost Democrat-favorable narratives.
