The Biden administration is refusing to discourage companies from sponsoring the February 2022 Olympic games hosted by Communist China even though it spent weeks demanding that companies react to Georgia’s election integrity law by boycotting the state.
The White House already announced it would not send any U.S. government officials to the upcoming Olympics due to Communist China’s “egregious human rights abuses” but expressed their “full support” for the U.S. athletes who plan to compete. The Biden administration also appears to have no problem with companies involving themselves with the Olympic games.
“What individual companies do is entirely up to them. We’re not going to pressure them one way or another,” U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo told Bloomberg. “So if a company decides — as many companies have — that they want to make a statement against human rights abuses, then that would be great. But we’re not going to be pushing anyone to make that decision.”

In April, Biden told ESPN that he publicly backed the mob pressuring Major League Baseball to move its All-Star Game from Atlanta over the state’s election integrity law, which he deemed “Jim Crow in the 21st century.”
“I think today’s professional athletes are acting incredibly responsibly. I would strongly support them doing that. People look to them. They’re leaders,” Biden said. “Look what’s happened with the NBA, as well. Look what’s happened across the board. The very people who are victimized the most are the people who are the leaders in these various sports, and it’s just not right.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki later denied that Biden “called for businesses to boycott” but proudly stated that the president supported companies removing themselves from the state.
“He also was not dictating that Major League Baseball move their game out of Georgia,” Psaki said. “He was conveying that if that was a decision that was made, that he would certainly support that and that’s true in the context of the remarks he made in that interview.”
She also snapped at RealClearPolitics reporter Philip Wegmann when he pressed her for an answer on whether the president would yank U.S. participation in the Beijing Olympics given his support for the Georgia boycott.
“The president voiced his support for MLB making a decision about the All-Star Game in Georgia. I’m wondering when can we expect final determination from the president about the United States participating in the Beijing Olympics given that he said the Chinese president doesn’t have a ‘democratic bone’ in his body?” Wegmann asked.
“Well, I think the U.S. Olympic Committee would play a big role in—” Psaki began before Wegmann interrupted to push her for an answer concerning Biden’s position.
Instead of answering his question, however, Psaki insulted the reporter.
“I don’t know if you heard the question, the answer that happened a few minutes ago where we addressed this and I answered the question and I gave a little more context, but maybe you weren’t paying attention to that part,” Psaki responded.
