Mollie Hemingway and Sean Davis: The Virtual DNC Was A Failure

On this episode of The Federalist Radio Hour, Mollie Hemingway, Senior Editor at The Federalist, and Sean Davis, co-founder of The Federalist, discuss the highs, lows, and embarrassing moments from the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

“It was actually depressing to hear what they think about this country and how irredeemable it is, and evil, and awful, and then I would be kind of disappointed because they would move into ‘Let’s be patriotic!’ And it’s like—you’re kind of all over the place,” Hemingway noted. “It was very hard to see it, but lots of just depressing horrible—like we’ve never been in a worse place. I know that when you are the out party you have to paint a dystopian picture of the party. But it was so joyless and depressing and the lack of people certainly added to that.”

Not only did the convention prove to be disappointing, but Davis said it showed Biden and the media’s true colors.

“We saw it from Ryan Lizza and Tim Alberta at Politico as this seemingly over the top characterization that this will be the speech that defines Joe Biden’s career. Nevermind that he’s been in politics for 50 years, eight of them in the White House. I think he’s pretty well defined before reading his speech last night,” Davis said.

“I think the media delivered in all the ways I thought they would. They did not get the point. They were cartoonish and absurd and ridiculous and I love it. Because I love it when they show you who they are and they stopped hiding it,” Davis added.
