First, let us be clear on a few things, I believe Lena Dunham is a talented writer and found her HBO show “Girls” compelling, but it’s time to get real about her offstage persona. Dunham uses causes to promote herself, not the other way around. She’ll latch on to whatever bandwagon will keep her in the news.
Since everything has become political, Lena goes for the easy association of politics to promote her name. It started with conflating losing her virginity with voting for Barack Obama while admitting she did not vote in 2008. It continued with her absurd love for Planned Parenthood, which she uses as a go-to whenever she needs her name in the news. Then, she was about 60 percent of Hillary Clinton’s campaign to be president of Brooklyn.
Now that there’s no campaign to latch on to and she was caught lying about her dog’s history as a way to explain giving him up, she pivots again.
In case you missed it, after promoting her shelter dog Lamby for years on Instagram, Dunham quietly returned him. Because this would be seen as contradicting her brand, she embellished her dog’s prior history of owners and challenges that conflict directly with reports from the facility where she got him.
[Brooklyn Animal Rescue Coalition] BARC founder and director Vincent Spinola told Page Six, ‘We are saddened to learn that Lena Dunham’s dog has been given away for showing aggressive behavior towards the actress in the month’s leading up to her surrendering the animal to a facility out of state.’
‘When the dog was here at BARC, where he lived with us for just under a month before he was adopted, he was mild mannered and very well behaved. There were no signs of bad temperament or any kind of aggression … the dog became a favorite of our staff and volunteers during his stay here, but of course, we were all delighted to see him go off to a loving home,’ he added.
Spinola also noted that the organization followed up with Dunham more than once to check in on Lamby’s adjustment, but their efforts were ignored.
This story went pretty badly for Dunham, who was brutally lambasted by her own fan base for returning a shelter dog and, according to the shelter, misrepresenting Lamby’s history. So what is a Lena Dunham to do? No active political campaign to stalk. No need for a GOTV dance routine, no one calling for one of those celebrity cause videos where the commitment level is so low they never even bother to record it together. So back to constant battle for reproductive justice.
As you know, the United States is a brutal hellscape for women. Further, in case you missed it, Dunham is “a woman with a reproductive illness” that grants her complete authority here. Unfortunately for Lena, the Republican Party has not outlawed vaginas, pap smears, or birth control, but just in case they do, Lena is now willing to sell her clothes to help you. This for you, America. She is giving up her future daughter’s wardrobe for you.
“I always thought I was going to hoard all of my clothes for my future daughter, and now I understand, especially being a woman with a reproductive illness, I may end up with an adopted son, I may end up with a daughter who doesn’t identify with her gender at birth. You can’t live for the future that does not yet exist. I have to take all of this good fashion fortune I’ve had a spread it,” she told The New York Times in discussing her clothing sale.
Or it could just be that she lost a bunch of weight because, you know, Donald Trump. I’m not kidding. Trump might be partially responsible for making Lena hot again. While talking with Howard Stern, Dunham herself credited her recent weight loss to Trump: “Donald Trump became president and I stopped being able to eat food,” Dunham, 30, told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show.
The actress, who has long been criticized for her body image, continued, ‘Everyone’s been asking like, ‘What have you been doing?’ And I’m like, ‘Try soul-crushing pain and devastation and hopelessness and you, too, will lose weight.’
So there you have it. To make you all forget that Lena heartlessly abandoned her shelter dog, she is letting people buy clothes that do not fit her anymore to support Planned Parenthood, an organization that kills babies before anyone gets a chance to adopt them. Moreover, it is all to keep Lena on brand and in business. And the media fell for it. Well done, Lena’s publicist. Lamby who?
