Purnell: Dems Furious At Prospect Of Losing Their Monopoly On Gerrymandering

“Kamala Harris won Illinois with just under 55 percent of the vote. By comparison, there were also congressional races in Illinois in 2024, and Democrats won 82 percent of congressional seats in Illinois. So if we want to talk about gerrymandering, Illinois is a great place to start,” said Federalist Assignment Editor Elle Purnell on Newsmax. “But what’s happening with this gerrymandering conversation is, gerrymandering is something that Democrats have done for a very long time, and Republicans are slowly starting to catch up, and it’s something that makes Democrats very unhappy.”

“It’s very similar to what happened with ballot harvesting. It used to be that you would go to the polls on Election Day, you would vote in person, and Democrats found that if they extended Election Day to election month, and they allowed people to vote by mail so that Democrats could go door-to-door and collect their ballots and turn them in for them, they could accrue more votes. And this was something that was very successful for Democrats. So in 2024, Republicans kind of slowly caught up and started playing ball, and Democrats were very unhappy to lose such a large advantage that they had — that’s the same thing that’s happening here.”
