MSNBC yanked their flagship show, “Morning Joe,” off the air on Monday over concerns the hosts would say something “inappropriate” about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, CNN reported. But as The Federalist’s Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway explained, MSNBC admitted just “how damaging” the show is to America.
CNN’s Oliver Darcy reported that “the decision was made to avoid a scenario in which one of the show’s stable of two dozen-plus guests might make an inappropriate comment on live television that could be used to assail the program and network as a whole.” A spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group told CNN that the network would be cross simulcasting between NBC News and MSNBC to cover the breaking news.
But, as Hemingway explained, MSNBC executives knew thy could not “trust [Morning Joe] at all at a moment like this.”
MSNBC’s decision to yank the show off the air during some of the most impactful days in American history indicates that executives know the show has become ground zero for hateful and divisive rhetoric. It’s the same rhetoric that President Joe Biden decried Sunday night in a speech begging for people to tone down the rhetoric (despite multiple instances of Biden himself likening Trump to Hitler).

Back in December, Trump promised to “root out the Communists, Marxists, Fascists and Radical Left Thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our Country” in a post on Truth Social. “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough then accused Trump of speaking like a “fascist,” yet clutched his pearls when Trump suggested ridding the U.S. of said fascists.
“Drumpfs came here from Germany when just having a name Drumpf and being from Germany was seen as anti-American and seen as poisoning the bloodstream,” Scarborough said. “And now we’re just going full-on Hitler talking about vermin.”
Scarborough has also falsely accused Trump of wanting to be a dictator, attempting to “undermine the Constitution,” and being “the most racist president of our lifetime.”
But what’s more is that for more then eight years, viewers have tuned in to “Morning Joe” faithfully to get their political news. Their entire perception of Trump has, in some cases, been built off the lies and opinions of hosts and routine panelists who are now deemed too untrustworthy to talk about historical political developments.
If “Morning Joe” can’t be trusted to deliver sound reporting and commentary on an issue that has no “two-sides,” they surely can’t be trusted on anything else, ever — and MSNBC just tacitly admitted that.
