EA’s plan was to have people pay real money for an in-game currency that allows players to purchase ‘Loot Crates’ that provide random rewards. Sounds like a slot machine.
If EA succeeds here, game publishers will feel emboldened to put more gameplay content behind a paywall/grindwall in multiplayer games.
EA’s ‘micro-transactions’ mean players either have to spend a disgusting number of hours in game, or spend a lot of hard-earned cash getting the things that should have been included.
For now, I would not recommend pre-ordering. Instead, wait a week or two until the inevitable patches and deep-dive reviews land.
